Installing PiVPN on EndeavourOS Latest

PiVPN is an open-source VPN server that aims to simplify the process of setting up a home VPN. With PiVPN, you can connect to your home network from anywhere in the world and keep your browsing activities safe and private. In this tutorial, we'll walk you through the installation process of PiVPN on EndeavourOS Latest.

Prerequisites

Before we proceed with the installation, make sure that you have the following:

  • A Raspberry Pi running the latest version of Raspbian.
  • A static IP address for your Raspberry Pi.
  • An SSH client to connect to your Raspberry Pi.

Step 1: Update Your System

Before we begin the installation process, make sure your system is up to date. To do this, open your terminal and run the following command:

sudo pacman -Syu

This command will update your system packages to the latest version.

Step 2: Install PiVPN

Now that your system is up to date, it’s time to install PiVPN. Open your terminal and run the following command to install the PiVPN package:

curl -L https://install.pivpn.io | bash

This command will download and install the PiVPN package.

Step 3: Configure PiVPN

After installing the PiVPN package, you need to configure it. To do this, open your terminal and run the following command:

pivpn add

This command will launch the PiVPN configuration wizard. Follow the wizard prompts to configure your VPN server. Make sure to choose the default configuration options, unless you have a good reason not to.

At the end of the configuration wizard, you will be prompted to choose the encryption method. We recommend choosing the default encryption method (AES-256-CBC) for maximum security.

After you've completed the configuration wizard, you'll be provided with a client.ovpn file. This file will be used to connect to your VPN server.

Step 4: Connect to Your PiVPN Server

Now that PiVPN is installed and configured, it’s time to connect to your VPN server. To do this, open your terminal and run the following command:

sudo openvpn /etc/openvpn/client/client.ovpn

This command will establish a connection to your VPN server.
