How to Install MODX on Windows 11
MODX is a popular open-source Content Management System (CMS) that allows developers to create and manage websites. In this tutorial, we will show you how to install MODX on a Windows 11 machine.
Prerequisites
Before installing MODX, please ensure that your system meets the following requirements:
- A web server, such as XAMPP, running on your Windows 11 machine
- PHP version 7.1 or higher
- A database server, such as MySQL
Step 1: Download MODX
To download MODX, visit their official website: https://modx.com/download/. Click the "Download MODX Revolution" button. Once the download is complete, extract the MODX package to your web server directory (for example, C:\xampp\htdocs).
Step 2: Create a Database
Next, you'll need to create a new database for MODX to use. Open your preferred database management tool and create a new database.
Step 3: Create a Database User
After the database is created, you'll need to create a user with full permissions to the database. Make sure to take note of the database username and password, as you will need this information later.
Step 4: Configure MODX
With the MODX files extracted to your server directory, navigate to the MODX setup page in your web browser. For example, if you installed MODX in the C:\xampp\htdocs folder, the setup URL would be http://localhost/setup.
Follow the prompts to configure your MODX installation. You'll need to provide your database credentials, set up an admin account, and choose your website settings.
Step 5: Run MODX
Once the MODX installation is complete, you can access your site by visiting your web server's URL in your browser. For example, if you installed MODX in the C:\xampp\htdocs folder and your web server is running on http://localhost, the MODX site URL would be http://localhost/.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed MODX on your Windows 11 machine. You can now start building and managing your website using this powerful CMS.
