Installing CasaOS on macOS

CasaOS is a dedicated operating system for personal devices like Raspberry Pi, providing privacy-focused services for home network automation. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of installing CasaOS on your macOS-based computer.

Requirements

  • A macOS computer with at least 8GB of available storage and 2GB of RAM
  • A copy of CasaOS image file from the official website
  • SD card of at least 16GB in size
  • Raspberry Pi Imager app (Downloaded from https://www.raspberrypi.org/software/)
  • An SD card reader

Procedure

  1. Download the latest version of CasaOS from the official website.
  2. Download and install the Raspberry Pi Imager on your macOS computer.
  3. Check that your SD card is inserted into your SD card reader and connect it to your macOS computer.
  4. Open the Raspberry Pi Imager app and select "Choose OS."
  5. Select "Use Custom" and then select the CasaOS image file you downloaded in step 1.
  6. Make sure the correct Target SD card is selected then click "Write." If you are prompted to provide an administrator password, enter your macOS computer's administrator password.
  7. Wait for the Raspberry Pi Imager app to complete the writing process. This may take several minutes depending on your computer's processing power and the speed of your SD card.
  8. Once the writing process is complete, eject the SD card from your SD card reader and insert it into your Raspberry Pi.
  9. Connect the Raspberry Pi to a power source and turn it on.
  10. CasaOS will now boot up and is ready to use.
