How to Install webtrees on macOS
Webtrees is a free and open-source genealogy software that allows users to manage their family tree online. In this tutorial, we are going to explain how to install webtrees on macOS.
Prerequisites
Before we start, make sure your Mac has the following:
- XAMPP or any other web server software installed on your computer.
- A web browser to access the webtrees installer.
Step 1: Download webtrees
Open your preferred web browser and navigate to the webtrees download page.
Click on the download button for macOS (Mac OS X 10.4 or higher), and the webtrees archive file will begin downloading immediately.
Step 2: Extract the downloaded file
Once the download is finished, navigate to the location where the webtrees archive file has been saved. Right-click on the file and choose "Extract Here" to uncompress its contents.
Step 3: Move the extracted files to XAMPP
Go to the directory where XAMPP is installed. Usually, it is located at
/Applications/XAMPP/htdocs
Copy the extracted webtrees files and paste them into the htdocs folder.
Step 4: Run the webtrees installer
Start your web server by navigating to the XAMPP control panel and clicking on the "Start" button next to Apache.
Then open your web browser and go to http://localhost/webtrees.
The webtrees installer will open, and it will guide you through the installation process. Simply follow the instructions and fill in the required information, such as the database name, username, and password.
Once you have completed the installation process, you should be able to access your new family tree by going to http://localhost/webtrees.
